Period 4
Level 1 Graphics Research Assignment
Some problems in today’s advances in the technology world is 3D printing. What 3D printing is, is it prints a hot plastic in the shape of an object that you want. You can easily design objects such as a cube, a can, or even the shape of a phone. All by the simple click of a button. Some difficulties though that this involves include the quality of the printing, the time duration of the printing, and the workflow.
When you print out the object that you are looking for the quality may not always be the best that you would want it to be. The material that it is when it comes out is a flimsy plastic just like a plastic water bottle that is recyclable. The material that is used when printing is recycled plastic from old objects that is then melted. So why would anybody want to print something that would come out as flimsy and fragile like that? That question is easy it is because it would be cheaper and easier to just click a button and bam, but that duration process is not as fast as you think it would be.
The duration for an object to be melted and finally printed is estimated to be about 30 minutes to 1 whole day. It all depends on the size, density, and shape of your object. A lot of the time that people have printed has resulted in failure of the object not coming out the way that person had originally wanted it to. People care so much about just having the 3D printer, but is it really worth having. If it takes that long for it be printed for it to come out looking completely opposite why spend that money on it. It is going to be amazing the day that 3D printers will become reliable and transparent. Which gets into the next problem, such as the workflow.
Workflow of the 3D printer is very outdated and not very up to date on the whole 21st century. They use melted plastic that comes out of a tube into the object that you would prefer. The workflow is long and tiring and is causing problems. Just like why would we need factories and manufacturers now if we have a 3D printer that does the job right at our house.
Those are the problems in today’s society with 3D printing.
